Community Care Day is a wonderful day organized by the United Way to allow community members to give back to their community.
During Community Care Day, employees of The United Way of Union County, area residents and beneficiaries of the projects pool their resources. One group of volunteers were assigned to spruce up the grounds of Wings, a residential facility for persons who receive counseling and treatment for mental health issues such as bipolar and depression.
The staff of Wings stresses, “At Wings, we are mental health consumers/clients and friends. We have needed help from our community and can now give back.”
For the day’s spruce up project, Home Depot, a home & garden supply retailer, provided mulch, landscaping products and tools. The volunteers, employees of United Way agencies and residents of the facility, pulled up their sleeves and got dirty together putting down grass seed and planting flowers.
“ It is a great day in which we can all help each other and feel good doing it,” said a Wings volunteer.
“ With the contributions of your time, elbow grease, and know-how, we had our largest and most impactful Care Day in the event’s 11-year history,” said Dave Bezusko, United Way of Union County Campaign & PR Director.
“ We had more than 250 volunteers and we fully completed 141 of the 150 projects on our list. Not bad for a day’s work!” said Bezusko, as he thanked all of the persons who volunteered to complete projects within the area.

“ Many thanks go out to all volunteers for your participation. We hope that you enjoyed your volunteer experience and that you will plan to join us again on Community Care Day 2008,” added Bezusko.
Continue to care for the community. Opportunities for making an impact continue to exist within the community at The United Way and member agencies. A guide to volunteering in Union County is posted on the website: www.unitedwayofunioncounty.org
