United
Way encourages ‘Windows Shopping’
Union County's largest online charity auction that benefits the United Way
of Union County is taking bids through the end of October. Web browsers can
shop online for discounts, deals, gifts, and bargains on the United Way's website,
www.unitedwayofunioncounty.org. United Way is working to raise $800,000 in
its fall campaign. Officials report that half of the goal has been achieved
via workplace campaigns and communitywide fundraisers.
The auction, which generates funds that supplement the organization's annual
campaign, is back for a second year.
Items posted for bidding in the online catalog are the result of generous in-kind
product or service donations from area businesses. To date, more than 125 items
are available to be bid upon. Items vary in value -from a $2,500 membership
to Corazón Club & Spa to a $10 cookbook from the Kiwanis Club of
Marysville.
"
The Online Auction is a great way for smaller businesses to participate in
the United Way campaign process because this gives them exposure for the services
they can provide," said Dave Bezusko, Campaign & PR Director for the
United Way of Union County.

Last year, in the event's first year, United Way received more than 489,000
hits on the website and raised $13,165 to be used for programs and services
provided by the non-profit organization. Businesses that participate in the
auction receive online exposure with their posted items and also receive additional
free advertising options if they choose to donate items of increased value.
"
There's something on the auction for everybody. All of the interesting items
in the auction truly gives you an idea of the varied products and services
made here in Union County," Bezusko said.
